Private firms to enter in India's Nuclear Energy Sector

For the 1st time ever - Private firms to enter in India's Nuclear Energy Sector

The government is in talks with private firms to invest approx $26 Billion in India's Nuclear Energy Sector.

Government is exploring ways to increase the share of non-carbon sources of electricity in its energy mix.

Currently, Nuclear Power, which is a non-carbon emitting energy source, contributes less than 2% towards India's total electricity generation.

The private firms in fray include Reliance Industries (RIL), Tata Power, Adani Power and Vedanta.

These firms may invest around ₹44000 Crore each.

Currently, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) owns and operates India's current fleet of Nuclear power plants with a total capacity of 7500 MW.
