Economic Sanctions |  Diplomatic Sanctions | Military Sanctions

What are Sanctions?

Sanctions are penalties imposed by a country on any entity which can be a country, company or an individual.

Why Sanctions?

The primary objective of Sanctions is to pressurize the sanctioned or targeted entity either economically or politically to alter their policies and actions.

What happens due to that?

The targeted entity's access to resources is restricted. The supply of financial as well as technological resources are blocked via sanctions.

What are the types of Sanctions?

There are several types of Sanctions, some of which are as follows:

Diplomatic Sanctions

Under Diplomatic Sanctions, the diplomatic ties are restricted by limiting high level government visits or calling off embassy relations.

Economic Sanctions

Under Economic Sanctions, trade related restrictions are imposed on the targeted entity which includes embargoes, tariff and non-tariff barriers on exports and imports, etc.

Military Sanctions

Under Military Sanctions, the purpose is to limit the military procurement and expansion of the targeted entity by imposing arms embargoes and military related trade restrictions.
